Tips for managing self-motivation

Motivation is something that comes into our hearts from nowhere, moves us from the unseen, and disappears.

It is one of the most important psychology for human beings, so we have to think about how we should face it.

In “Illustrated Motivation Encyclopedia” (Sanctuary Publishing) written by Takamasa Ikeda, a researcher in behavioral psychology from Japan, here is the summarize the mechanism of motivation and how to improve motivation that have been presented by researchers so far.

Control your motivation to make life more enjoyable. Here, I would like to take the theme of “self-management”.

1) keep someone from being "busy"

When people are aware of being busy, they tend to lack compassion. It also makes me feel that I am “self-centered.” For example, when I work and I’m supposed to have filled in my schedule with the idea of “helping others”, I forget that, and the feeling of being a victim “Why are you alone?” exudes, and I sometimes collide with my colleagues, or I sometimes make mistakes.

The use of time is life itself. There are people who do a lot of things, and people who can do only a little things, even for the same hour. People who do a lot of things at once may be praised as “quick at work” or “good at work”. However, there are some people who have more appointments than others who are not sure what they are doing for one appointment.

In order to have a fulfilling day, you need to have a “blank time” between appointments so that you can focus only on “that appointment”. This is the question of consciousness. If you think about the future, the quality of time will decrease.

In order to raise this quality, it is very important to focus on the present.

In this way, we can “always” increase the quality of time given. Try to practice focusing on “now” with plenty of time.

2) Convert Tension to Excitement

No one will be “not nervous at all” when faced with important situations. The human body and mind are made to be tense to the things that will happen.

However, when a state of “tension” occurs, there are individual differences in how to perceive it. Try taking a deep breath, trying to distract yourself, turning your shoulders and neck, or stretching if you don’t want to relax. But that’s not the best choice.

This is because the desire to “settle down” is in conflict with the intention to “exercise power” in the opposite direction. This can result in mistakes or a performance that is not yet complete. It’s easier to get rid of fear if you don’t try to force the state of tension away, but build it up in a positive way. Just by using words like “Something amazing is going to happen!” or “I’m excited!” to people or even in my own brain, “tension” is converted into “excitement.”

At that moment, the focus of the will will will turn from “fear of failure” to “what should be done now”, and the surroundings will produce more surprising results.  When you’re nervous, let’s shout “I’m excited!” in your brain.

3) It's not about being patient. "Get on" yourself well

Every time you decide to do something or do something, you drain your mind.

It is said that self-control is the best when you wake up. During work, I can speak at meetings, write an email to say no, pick things to buy at convenience stores, dress up in public… The action of determination and decision is exhausting and exhausting from evening to night.

This can be recovered by sleep, but if you use too much during the day, sleep alone will not be able to recover. This makes your thinking skills weaker and makes it easier to make mistakes. Therefore, you have to be careful because doing your best may cause trouble to yourself and others.

Sometimes you may say, “I cannot do my best.” However, I think that we should not do it anymore when we think that we should do our best. Because the more you think “I’ll do my best,” the more you feel that you don’t want to do it. If you can create a situation that allows you to take on yourself well, you will not waste your self-control.

Anyway, let’s change the situation until you can concentrate. Then you can work without reducing self-control.
