Monstera: meaning

The name “Monstera” may derive from the Latin “Monstrum”, meaning “monster” in reference to the leaves.

The word “Monstera”, also mean “Abnormal”, which refers to the leaves with their odd holes.

Monstera also has specific epithet “Deliciosa”, means dilicious, which refers to the edible fruit.

Monstera (มอนสเตอร่า) ว่ากันว่าอาจจะมาจากภาษาละตินที่เรียกว่า “Monstrum” ซึ่งมีความหมายว่า สัตว์ประหลาด (Monster) และอีกความหมายนึงคือ “Abnormal” ไม่ปกติ ซึ่งมาจากลักษณะของใบที่มีรูตามธรรมชาติ ซึ่งแตกต่างจากใบไม้ชนิดอื่น ๆ
